Cam and Drea

We look with uncertainty
Beyond the old choices for
Clear-cut answers
To a softer, more permeable aliveness
Which is every moment
At the brink of death;
For something new is being born in us
If we but let it.
We stand at a new doorway,
Awaiting that which comes…
Daring to be human creatures.
Vulnerable to the beauty of existence.
Learning to love.

Oracle 2012

SOUTHERN HUMBOLDT ARTIST TO SELL PAINTING TO BENEFIT LOCAL CANCER PATIENT

Many artists paint because it brings them joy, but sometimes they are able to use their art to help and bring joy to others as well. Southern Humboldt artist and school teacher, Drea Jensen, in efforts to raise money for 11-year-old cancer patient Cameron Varnell, is putting one of her paintings up for sale, with 100% of the proceeds going to help fund Varnell’s treatment.

Jensen, who taught Varnell at Skyfish School in Briceland, hopes that selling her painting, “Oracle 2012,” will not only help with funding Varnell’s treatment, but will also help raise awareness about him and his condition.

“It is so hard to see someone you know and care about go through something so difficult, especially at such a young age,” said Jensen. “I hope that selling one of my pieces can help Cameron celebrate remission, and also help spread his story.”

Varnell is currently in Memphis, TN., at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital completing leukemia treatment for the third time, where he recently received a 2nd successful bone marrow transplant. Though this is the third time his cancer has returned, Varnell still manages to stay positive.

“I’m glad for them (doctors at St. Jude) saving my life, and I know they can do it again,” said Varnell. “I know they will do it again.”

Jensen’s painting can be viewed and purchased on her website, dreajensengallery.artistwebsites.com, where 100% of the sale will go straight to Varnell’s treatment. For any further questions, please contact Jensen at drea@asis.com.
