For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.”

Miracle 2012

Often, the most wonderful emotions in our lives come from the most unexpected situations.

Life
Life flutters in
even when the window is shut tight
even when the door is locked
even when the cracks are all grouted over…
The heart is permeable;
Light goes in and out…
No matter how we try to keep this force under lock and key,
Life beats along thwarting our attempts to constrict and tame it
            or ourselves.

A Woman…

Letting Paint Dry 2012

Though we are constantly surrounded by magnetic energy, by looking carefully, we can find internal harmony.

“A woman in harmony with her spirit is like a river flowing. She goes where she will without pretense and arrives at her destination prepared to be herself and only herself.”

~Maya Angelou

Song for Autumn

In the deep fall
don’t you imagine the leaves think how
comfortable it will be to touch
    the earth instead of the
nothingness of air and the endless
freshets of wind? And don’t you think
the trees themselves, especially those with mossy,
    warm caves, begin to think
of the birds that will come — six, a dozen — to sleep
inside their bodies? And don’t you hear
the goldenrod whispering goodbye,
the everlasting being crowned with the first
tuffets of snow? The pond
vanishes, and the white field over which
the fox runs so quickly brings out
its blue shadows. And the wind pumps its
bellows. And at evening especially,
the piled firewood shifts a little,
longing to be on its way.

Devotion 2012

Following what we believe in always ends with a positive outcome. Dedication and passion generate beautiful structure in our world.

Desire

My desire
is always the same; wherever Life
deposits me:
I want to stick my toe
& soon my whole body
into the water.
I want to shake out a fat broom
& sweep dried leaves
bruised blossoms
dead insects
& dust.
I want to grow
something.
It seems impossible that desire
can sometimes transform into devotion;
but this has happened.
And that is how I’ve survived:
how the hole
I carefully tended
in the garden of my heart
grew a heart
to fill it.

Conception 2012

Though different, we all start the same way. Our original interpretation of creation brings birth and invention.

“Each one of us has lived through some devastation, some loneliness, some weather superstorm or spiritual superstorm, when we look at each other we must say, I understand. I understand how you feel because I have been there myself. We must support each other and empathize with each other because each of us is more alike than we are unalike.” ~ Maya Angelou
